Indiana cybersecurity experts aid Ukrainians guarding critical infrastructure
WEST LAFAYETTE, IN–Purdue’s CERIAS, the Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security, has provided programs in cybersecurity training, education and research support to Ukrainian government, public sector and higher education institutions since 2019, through the nongovernmental organization, CRDF Global. CERIAS reports that its approaches to cybersecurity differ from and complement those commonly employed by Ukrainian cyber professionals, and has identified opportunities for additional training for those professionals defending critical infrastructure in their country.
University of Kentucky to collaborate on $10 million NSF cybersecurity project
LEXINGTON, KY–The University of Kentucky will collaborate on a five-year, $10 million National Science Foundation initiative, led by the University of Colorado Boulder, to reimagine cyberinfrastructure user support services and delivery to keep pace with the evolving needs of academic scientific researchers. The initiative, Multi-tier Assistance, Training and Computational Help, or MATCH, has set goals around leveraging modern systems for a broader community and maximizing the knowledge that experts can impart to users through mentorship and training.
Wisconsin sees significant increase in remote tech workers, study finds
WISCONSIN–The shift to more remote work is attracting attention from researchers interested in the trend. TECNA, the national trade group for tech associations, released results of a study of remote work. One standout finding is that remote tech postings are up 421% since the start of the pandemic. Remote tech workers are finding attractive locations around Fast Future Country, like Wisconsin, which is one of the states with the highest growth rates of tech worker profiles, increasing 6.6% during the pandemic.
Microsoft sends funds for Indiana tech training
INDIANA–Indiana’s tech initiative TechPoint has garnered a $750,000 gift from Microsoft Philanthropies to upskill career-changing adults who want to enter the tech workforce. The nonprofit says the funding will allow it to help guide adults toward skills-focused training, as opposed to a traditional college degree. TechPoint says nearly 185,000 Hoosiers work in the Indiana tech sector, which has increased more than 16% since 2010.
Cincy startup secures $4 million to tackle enterprise data woes
CINCINNATI, OH–Data management startup Pantomath has secured $4 million in seed funding, led by Bowery Capital and Epic Ventures, two big-name firms based in New York and Salt Lake City, respectively. Other angel investors also participated. Founder Somesh Saxena, a University of Cincinnati graduate, recently left his position as the head of GE Aviation’s enterprise data program to tackle the data problems enterprises face.
Unique digital economic zone creates opportunity for native tribal nation
ROCK HILL, SC–The Catawba Indian Nation in Rock Hill, South Carolina has set up a special digital economic zone with regulatory certainty for web3, crypto, blockchain, and fintech companies that they might not find anywhere else in the U.S. Once fully in operation, the Catawba expect the special economic zone to be lucrative. Thomas Trimnal, a VP at Catawba Corporations, says it will put them on the cutting edge, helping attract money and investment from global players, not just the U.S., and create more jobs for the tribe.
