Morrell Group relocates to Noblesville, Indiana
NOBLESVILLE, IN–The Washington Business Park in Noblesville, Indiana, is now home to the newest facility of Morrell Group, as the advanced motion control solution provider had outgrown its last location in Indianapolis. Morrell Group is the park’s second occupant. The company will supply 33 jobs in its 32,000-square-foot space.
MachH2 plans to develop regional clean hydrogen hub
CHICAGO, IL–The Midwest Alliance for Clean Hydrogen (MachH2) announced that it will submit an application to the U.S. Department of Energy to develop a regional clean hydrogen production and distribution hub to be funded under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Under the Act, DOE will invest up to $8 billion to catalyze investment “to form the foundation of a national clean hydrogen network that will contribute substantially to decarbonizing multiple sectors of the economy.” MachH2 is a multi-state coalition of public and private entities representing every phase in the hydrogen value chain.
Whirlpool adopts Matter for smart home ecosystems
BENTON HARBOUR, MI–Whirlpool Corp. is taking steps toward making smart appliances work more harmoniously in home ecosystems by announcing support for Matter, the language of smart home connectivity. Whirlpool Corp. will also be an active member of the Matter working group focused on supporting appliances in a future version of Matter, and will add support to the company’s smart appliance lineup when that support launches.
EnergyLink installs Missouri’s largest array of solar panels
COLUMBIA, MO–MidwayUSA’s new 300,000-square-foot headquarters was outfitted with one of the largest rooftop solar arrays in Missouri by EnergyLink. With a solar size of 1.612 megawatts, the system will advance MidwayUSA’s sustainability mission while also delivering economic value. The solar array is projected to save the wholesaler up to $4,500,000 in potential energy costs for the new facility over the next 20 years.
Panasonic breaks ground on EV battery plant
De SOTO, KS–Panasonic Energy Co., a Panasonic Group company, began construction on a new lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility in De Soto, Kansas. The project will drive significant economic activity and opportunities for the local Kansas economy, making the state a key player in the domestic electric vehicle (EV) industry. Facility construction is focused on rapidly ramping up manufacture of “2170” cylindrical Li-ion batteries to meet surging domestic EV battery demand. Panasonic Energy plans to begin mass production in Kansas by March 2025. Upon completion of the facility, it will maintain annual total production capacity of approximately 30 GWh to supply EV manufacturers across the United States.
WEC Energy Group, EPRI complete world’s first hydrogen power test
MILWAUKEE, WI–WEC Energy Group and EPRI announced the successful demonstration of blending hydrogen in a natural gas generator. The project is the first hydrogen power test of a utility-scale, grid-connected reciprocating engine generator in the world. During two weeks of testing in mid-October, hydrogen and natural gas were tested in blends up to 25/75 percent by volume to power one of the reciprocating engine generating units that serves customers of Upper Michigan Energy Resources, a WEC Energy Group subsidiary. The testing was performed on an 18-megawatt unit that uses a technology known as RICE — reciprocating internal combustion engines.
