New tech school in Tulsa

TULSA, OK–With corporate interest growing in the northeast corner of the state, the University of Oklahoma is planning a new technology school in Tulsa to meet workforce demand. The OU Polytechnic Institute would operate on the OU-Tulsa campus and focus on high-demand careers and advanced technology, such as software engineering, electric vehicles, cybersecurity, advanced manufacturing and telehealth.

TENNESSEE–In its report, “Tech Workforce Trends: The Migration of Tech Jobs Since The Pandemic,” the Technology Councils of North America (TECNA) showcases the migration of tech workers throughout the United States during the COVID pandemic. Tennessee saw the largest percent change increase in tech jobs, at 7.6 percent.

St. Louis wants to double its tech workforce

ST. LOUIS, MO–Local leaders in St. Louis have, with the help of a federal grant, developed a membership-based technology council called TechSTL. TechSTL’s goals include doubling the region’s IT workforce within five years. It also has a $20 million “founder’s fund” that will go toward increasing diversity in the industry.

Preparing Black workers for technology careers

COLUMBUS, OH–Columbus is also setting its sights on diversity. The Columbus City Council approved a $400,000 city grant to a startup computer coding school on the Near East Side that focuses on preparing Black workers for technology careers. Color Coded Labs started in the spring of 2021 with the backing of investments from venture capitalists including Mark Kvamme.
