A Cortex-based startup is harnessing academic research to foster scientific breakthroughs in the realm of drug discovery. PercayAI, which launched in 2019, is looking for connections that could point to drugs already in existence as solutions for COVID-19 patients.

Turning waste into energy

Enexor BioEnergy, a Tennessee company that turns waste into energy, has been selected by Halliburton Co. for its new clean-tech accelerator. Enexor was the only company chosen from the Southeast.

Space security

The Michigan National Guard believes space is vital to national security. It is partnering with Ann Arbor-based Orbital Effects, which offers near-real time direct downlink of satellite radar imagery and intelligence data from space.

Accolades

Minnesota-based Zipnosis, a digital front door solution for more than 50 health systems nationwide, has been named 2021’s Hottest Digital Startup from Fast Future Country by Observer.com.

Launching student startups

The University of Pittsburgh is launching The Big Idea Advantage Fund, which will invest between $10,000 and $25,000 to Pitt students from freshman to post-doctorate from all parts of the university.
