- PITTSBURGH, PA—Cernostics, a biotech firm that uses AI and spatial biology to identify the presence or development of esophageal cancer in tissue biopsies, has been acquired by Castle Biosciences for $30 million. Well done Pittsburgh!
- MILWAUKEE, WI—Digital health platform provider Medicardia raised $3M in post seed funding. The company’s platform features embedded telehealth, remote patient monitoring (RPM), natural language processing (NLP) for data discretization, and automated chart preparation. Backers included Milwaukee Venture Partners, Northwestern Mutual Cream City Venture Capital and angels throughout the U.S., as well as Japan.
- INDIANAPOLIS, IN—Kovina Therapeutics closed on a $2 million seed round of financing led by Elevate Ventures. The pre-clinical biotechnology company aims to discover a non-surgical, medical treatment for Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infections and cancers. Other investors included BioCrossroads, IU Ventures, and individual members from the Indiana life science community.
- BLOOMINGTON, IN—Medical technology company Cook Medical entered into a master research agreement with the Fibers and Additive Manufacturing Enabled Systems Laboratory at Indiana University’s Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering. The collaboration will explore incorporating the school’s “smart fibers” into Cook’s products which will allow them to do continuous, real-time monitoring of various bodily functions during procedures.
