COLUMBUS, OH–Columbus is becoming an automobile innovation hub. Part of the reason is that the city is located at the geographic center of the U.S. auto industry–companies in the Columbus Region can reach 60 percent of the U.S./Canadian population within one day’s drive. Also, Columbus is home to The Ohio State University, which houses the Center for Automotive Research (CAR) as well as the 4,500-acre Transportation Research Center (TRC), the most comprehensive independent vehicle testing facility and proving grounds in the U.S.

BizStarts to assist Latino and Spanish-speaking entrepreneurs

MILWAUKEE, WI–BizStarts helps entrepreneurs, from small stores to scalable start-ups, by providing tools and resources that “clear the path to success.” Now BizStarts plans to launch its business education program to assist Latino and Spanish-speaking entrepreneurs. The program is based on programming from Michael Morris, a professor of entrepreneurship at the University of Notre Dame, who has developed curriculum and experiential learning programs for entrepreneurs living in conditions of adversity.

New feature cuts 911 response time

OMAHA, NE–New technology is cutting down 911 response time by pinpointing the caller’s location. AT&T is partnering with Omaha-based Intrado to introduce a new feature called Locate Before Route. It automatically transmits wireless 911 calls to the appropriate dispatch centers on a nationwide basis. Calls are now routed more quickly and more accurately.

RIot announces summer cohort

RALEIGH, NC–RIot (Raleigh Internet of Things) has announced the RAP XII cohort, which represents a variety of industries and backgrounds from across various North Carolina communities. The startups in the cohort are working on technology solutions in healthcare, immersive language, live music streaming, and medical devices. Founders of these companies will learn and grow together over the 12-week intensive program.
