DURHAM, NC—Researchers from Duke Global Health Institute and the COVID Collaborative are working to connect low- and middle-income countries with tools and external resources to navigate weak links in their vaccine supply chains.

Weight gain in children during COVID

CINCINNATI—Children got heavier through the coronavirus pandemic, worsening a generational weight problem and raising their risk for COVID-19, according to a patient study at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. The study found the percentage of children at unhealthy weights rose from 35% to 36.4% from 2011 to 2020. However, in the pandemic’s first year, that number rose to 39.7%.

Cleveland transport authority snags gold award  

CLEVELAND, OH—For its use of UV technology on public transportation, the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority has received the 2021 COVID-19 Gold Award for Heavy Rail Systems from the American Public Transportation Association.

Kansas medical school grad honored for work in COVID

MANHATTAN, KS—Barney Graham, M.D., Ph.D., a 1979 graduate of the University of Kansas School of Medicine, has been named 2021 Federal Employee of the Year based on his research that led to the development of a COVID-19 vaccine.
