Oracle closes $28M deal with Cerner
KANSAS CITY, MO–Oracle has completed its $28 billion acquisition of Electronic Health Records vendor Cerner. “Oracle’s Autonomous Database, APEX low-code development tools, and voice-enabled user interface enable us to rapidly modernize Cerner’s systems and move them to our next-generation cloud,” said Mike Sicilia, executive vice president of industries at Oracle in a statement.
Parata Systems acquired in $1.52B deal
DURHAM, NC–Medical device maker Becton Dickinson will acquire Durham’s Parata Systems in a $1.52 billion all-cash deal, as it expands into the pharmacy automation sector. Parata Systems provides automation solutions, such as medication adherence packaging and high-speed robotic dispensing technologies, to pharmacies to help them reduce costs and enhance patient safety and experience.
New center funded at University of Minnesota
MINNEAPOLIS, MN–The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), will provide $66.4 million in federal funding over three years for the University of Minnesota to house a new center for researching and developing coronavirus antivirals. UMN was only one of nine institutions across the country selected, and will be the only center in the Midwest.
$30M funding round for Moxe
MADISON, WI–Healthcare interoperability company Moxe landed a $30M funding round led by Piper Sandler Merchant Banking and Vensana Capital with participation from existing investors. Moxe will use this funding to prioritize team expansion and technology investments to further advance its clinical data exchange solutions.
Late professor bequeaths money to cancer research
WEST LAFAYETTE, IN–John Capaldi, a former faculty member at Purdue whose only sister died of cancer, bequeathed $8.5 million to support cancer research at the school. The money will go to Philip Low, Purdue University’s Presidential Scholar for Drug Discovery and the Ralph C. Corley Distinguished Professor of Chemistry. The funding will support more than 40 years’ worth of cancer research.
