Cleveland Clinic ranked second best hospital in the world

CLEVELAND, OH—Cleveland Clinic has been ranked as the No. 2 hospital in the world again by Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals 2022 list. The rankings are based on three data sources: online surveys of more than 80,0000 medical experts from around the world; results from publicly available patient experience surveys; and medical key performance indicators, including patient safety, infection prevention measures, and doctor-to-patient ratios.

Universities synthesizing compounds to treat AUD

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN—According to the 2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), 14.5 million people ages 12 and older have AUD (alcohol use disorder). Researchers in Purdue University’s College of Pharmacy, the Purdue Institute for Drug Discovery and Washington University in St. Louis are synthesizing compounds that may be able to treat people affected by AUD.

Surgeons at Duke hospital perform milestone transplant

DURHAM, NC—Two procedures that represent a milestone in heart transplantation were performed at Duke University Hospital. A 7-month-old baby received a new heart using processed thymus tissue. The thymus tissue procedure could mean transplant recipients would not reject the donated organ and they would also not need to undergo treatment with long-term immune-suppression medications.
