Eli Lilly’s diabetes drug approved

INDIANAPOLIS, IN–The FDA has approved Eli Lilly’s new medication for Type 2 diabetes. Mounjaro is the first new class of type 2 diabetes medication introduced in almost a decade. Mounjaro is expected to be available in the United States in the coming weeks.

Team studies prostate cancer screening

CLEVELAND, OH–The typical screening method for prostate cancer—measuring PSA levels in the blood—has become controversial due to some faulty short-term data from randomized trials. In this study, University Hospitals’ Jonathan Shoag, MD, and a team of researchers from Case Western Reserve University and the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center, Weill Cornell Medical Center, and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center set out to assess the tradeoffs of PSA screening using long-term epidemiologic data.

Robotic bronchoscopy

CINCINNATI, OH–Mercy Health – Clermont Hospital’s pulmonology team is using an innovative technology called robotic bronchoscopy to help diagnose lung nodules earlier and more accurately. The Monarch Platform integrates advancements in robotics, software, data science and endoscopy (the use of small cameras and tools to enter the body through its natural openings).

Oral med found to help people with slow-growing cancer

ANN ARBOR, MI–In early research led by the University of Michigan Health Rogel Cancer Center, the oral medication zanubrutinib was found to help most patients with a slow-growing type of cancer known as marginal zone lymphoma. Cancers shrunk in 80 percent of the 20 patients on the clinical trial with marginal zone lymphoma, with a fifth experiencing complete remission.
