Milwaukee startups VC coup | Educating the next generation of energy leaders
- MILWAUKEE, WI—The Milwaukee metropolitan area has 147 startups that have landed at least one venture capital deal since 2010 and are still in operation. A total of 177 Milwaukee-area startups have collectively raised at least $279.18 million in venture capital since 2010. This data comes from an update of the Metro Milwaukee Innovation Data Tool, funded by venture capitalist and former Milwaukee County executive Chris Abele as part of a startup initiative announced in the fall.
- STILLWATER, OK—The Harold Hamm Foundation and Continental Resources announced a combined $50 million gift creating the Hamm Institute for American Energy at Oklahoma State University. The mission of the institute is to educate the next generation of energy leaders, cementing Oklahoma’s legacy as a global energy leader.
- DURHAM, NC—Duke University hopes to reshape the education of future leaders in science and technology to achieve breakthroughs in global challenges with a $250 million initiative. The effort is focused on three main themes: materials science, computing and resilience of the body and brain.
- COLUMBUS, OH—Drive Capital is seeking to raise a $600 million second Overdrive Fund for later-stage technology companies, as well as a $350 million Fund IV in its traditional seed and Series A space. Drive raised $650 million over two funds in January 2020.
